This year marks an important milestone for Henry Carus + Associates as we celebrate 25 years of standing beside injured Victorians and their families.
Founded in 2001 by Henry Carus, what began as a small Melbourne personal injury practice has grown into a team of over 60 staff across legal, administration, intake, and support roles — while remaining proudly independent and committed to personalised client care.
Over the past quarter-century, we have supported thousands of people navigating TAC claims, WorkCover matters, medical negligence, public liability claims, and other serious injury cases throughout Victoria.
But for us, this milestone is about much more than numbers.
It is about the people who trusted us during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Supporting People Through Life-Changing Circumstances
Many of our clients contact us during periods of significant uncertainty.
Some are unable to return to work after a serious transport or workplace accident. Others are managing life-changing injuries, mounting medical appointments, financial stress, or major changes to family life and independence.
For 25 years, our role has been to help people feel supported, informed, and guided through what can often be an overwhelming process.
As Henry Carus explains:
“Personal injury law is ultimately about people whose lives have been significantly disrupted. Over 25 years, legislation, processes, and technology have changed dramatically, but the need for clients to feel supported, informed, and genuinely cared for has remained constant.”
From TAC Legal Advisor to Client Advocate
Before establishing the firm, Henry worked within the Transport Accident Commission system as a legal advisor — an experience that shaped his decision to advocate directly for injured clients.
Working inside the system provided firsthand insight into how complex and intimidating compensation processes could become for ordinary Victorians.
That experience continues to influence the firm’s philosophy today: You Deserve More.
Not just legal representation — but communication, guidance, accessibility, and genuine care throughout the claims process.

Growing While Staying True to Our Values
Over the years, the legal profession has changed significantly.
What once involved walls lined with paper files and external storage sheds has evolved into a fully digitised practice incorporating modern technology and AI-assisted tools to improve efficiency and client service.
At the same time, our commitment to personal connection has remained unchanged.
Today, Henry works closely alongside Senior Associates:
Together, they help lead the growing practice, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the future direction of the firm.

One of the things we are most proud of is seeing team members grow within the firm itself.
Several employees began in administration or intake roles before progressing into legal assistant, paralegal, lawyer, and senior leadership positions — including Senior Associate Michael Constable, who joined the firm as a trainee lawyer in 2014.
We also recently celebrated our Head of Finance, Oksana Bezsmertna, and our Executive Assistant to Henry Carus, Heike Otte Teasdale, both of whom have been with the firm for 15 years!
Their loyalty and contribution reflect the culture and long-term relationships that continue to shape our firm today.

Supporting Victoria’s Diverse Communities
What began as a practice operating primarily in English and Henry’s native language of Spanish has evolved into a multilingual team with staff proficient in more than 12 languages.
Combined with external interpreter providers, this ensures clients from diverse cultural backgrounds can access legal support in a way that feels clear, comfortable, and accessible.
As Henry says “I have always believed that language should never be a barrier to justice.”
Community Involvement Beyond the Office
Throughout our 25-year journey, we have remained committed to supporting the communities we serve.
Over the years, the firm has proudly supported:
- Amber Community
- Foodbank Victoria
- Deakin Law Students’ Society
- Local cricket clubs
- Community festivals
- Local sportspeople including Australian athlete, Jason Sleep
These partnerships reflect our belief in building a more connected and supported community.
Looking Ahead
While much has changed over 25 years, our focus remains the same – providing personalised support, strong advocacy, and meaningful guidance for injured Victorians and their families.
As we look to the future, we remain committed to:
- mentoring the next generation of legal professionals
- investing in technology and client service
- maintaining the personalised approach that has always defined our firm
Most importantly, we remain incredibly grateful to every client, staff member, referral partner, and community organisation that has been part of our journey.
